94-year-old DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi was admitted to the Cauvery Hospitals in the city in the morning hours of today reportedly for an elective Procedure to change tracheostomy tubes.
The ailing Dmk Patriarch had a history of breathing problem and lung infection due to which he underwent a tracheostomy procedure in December 2016.
According to the Hospital bulletin, which was released in the morning Karunanidhi would be discharged from the hospital in the evening after the elective procedure is performed on him.

“All vital parameters are normal and the veteran politician would be discharged soon after the procedure,” said Arvind Selvaraj, Executive director of the Hospitals.
It may be recalled that the DMK Patriarch has fallen ill in December 2016 (in the same month former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa died in Apollo Hospitals) and had to be performed the procedure to overcome his breathing problem.
Since then the ailing leader has been confined to his Gopualapuram residence and it is rarely seen in public.
Though officially Karunanidhi is the President of the DMK, the party is being run by M. K. Stalin, who has been given the office of Working President by the patriarch.
