Kenobi: A Star Wars Story rumors fire up yet again

Could a studio booking possibly have revealed that Kenobi: A Star Wars Story may be moving ahead.

(Let me be super clear, Kenobi: A Star Wars Story is not an official title, it’s just what fans are using for now.)

No one knows exactly what will happen after Star Wars Episode IX yet other than Rian Johnson is working on a new trilogy. The belief is the stand-alone films will continue, but we’ve heard nothing firm beyond Solo: A Star Wars Story yet. One rumor that won’t die is a solo film for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and more specifically with Ewan McGregor returning to the role.

Is there anyone who disagrees he was the best part of the prequels?

It has been rumored for some time that Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) has been tapped to direct the film, but nothing firm has been announced.

Then another rumor showed up that the film’s working title is “Joshua Tree.”

But now a production has booked Pinewood Studios UK for January 2019 according to Omega Underground.

STATUS: JANUARY 2019

LOCATION(S): LONDON, ENGLAND, GBR

DIRECTOR: Stephen Daldry

PRODUCER: Kathleen Kennedy, Tracey Seaward

With Daldry listed, and Lucasfilm president Kennedy listed as a producer, it sure seems like this could be Kenobi. The start date also lines up with a Dec. 2020 release date, possibly even May 2020.

I hope this is what is happening. There is a huge 20 year span we don’t know what Kenobi was doing, and I don’t believe he just sat in his desert hut the entire time watching over Luke. That just seems unlikely.
