If it’s a new Star Wars movie, that means there must be new toys… I mean story essential vehicles.
As someone who has collected Star Wars memorabilia since 1977, even I sometimes have to go, “Yeah, you’re doing this for the toys.” I remember when Revenge of the Sith hit theaters and every Clone battalion had to have its own color scheme which meant tons and tons of toys. And I fully admit I’m guilty when it comes to Astromechs (Think R2-D2 for those that don’t know the term) I have over 80 different ones displayed above my desk at work. So, I have my moments of weakness.
On Wednesday it was announced that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) would be getting his own version of a TIE Fighter in The Last Jedi called a TIE Silencer. It’s a cross between a TIE Interceptor from Return of the Jedi and Vader’s TIE Advanced X1 in A New Hope.
Unless we see Ren engage in an actual dogfight in the film with this, or use its guns in some way, I’m going to strike this u to “new toy syndrome.” There is actually going to be one on sale this week at San Diego Comic-Con, so it’s already starting.
Star Wars The Last Jedi hits theaters on Dec. 15.
