Greetings, Salutations, and Introductions

This blog – like so many others in the broad spectrum of the Internet universe – is designed purely to facilitate my ramblings.  Specifically those ramblings on a broad swath of topics that I have some interest in (and varying degrees of knowledge, from dismally nil to extremely overqualified).
We live in a world where the Renaissance Man, that iconoclastic embodiment of the gentleman of leisure, is no longer a valued individual and whose worth to society is denigrated to liberal arts colleges and coffee houses (let me be clear, I don't hold any distaste for Liberal Arts Colleges or Coffee Houses).  Alas, I suspect I was born far too late, because I have rarely been able to hammer my interests into the mould of society, swearing myself to working in one field for the rest of my days with little to no flexibility into other ones.  I suspect that is why I’ve foundered on the rocks of the world sometimes, and probably why the life of a writer beckons me on.
This blog, Generibad, is actually the direct descendant of a book I conceived many years ago called Tin Cans: Musings on Several Topics including Democracy, History, and Running Shoes.  The title has altered (Although I still think of it as musings) but the context and content have stayed firm.  Where I originally intended to gather such ideas and publish them in a book, I’ve decided to post them as regularly as possible in this blog.  If interest and readership becomes large enough, I will eventually publish a companion book (at moderate cost and independently via lulu) with all the preceding blog entries, plus unpublished ones and other items that might interest my readers.
What I can promise you – no, promise to try – is content that might be hard edged in the sense that I am a man who sees the world in black and white.  Sometimes I might paint rather broad strokes, but inside each one is the meat of truth I think I possess.  What I can promise – and yes, this time I mean promise – is that I shall rarely focus on one topic for too long, as such adamant strength of purpose is beyond me.
