Only one child among ten #GivingTuesday#India

Only one child among ten in India gets adequate nutrition. This is the finding of a report in India Spend dated May 2017.

A friend sent a link to a recent article that appeared in the national press. The words she expressed were; ‘sad’ and ‘shocking’. The article entitled: India has world’s highest number of stunted children, child workers, once again brings to light the plight of children in India. But does anyone care. Does anyone care that India has the highest number of children stunted due to malnutrition: 42.8 million. Stunted growth is caused by chronic malnutrition in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life so the harm is done in the first 2 years, and the harm is irreversible.

I use to blog about this tragedy on a regular basis. The daunting figure of 5000 death a day of children between the age of 0 to 5 was disturbing and made me take my pen many a times. But it seemed like no one cared. I stopped writing as it seemed futile. So in a way I am happy to have been reminded of this terrible tragedy that seems unending. It has broken my silence again.

I feel a little guilty of having remained silent for the past year or so. It is time I picked up my pen again and wrote in the hope that someone somewhere will hear.

Sharing some of my pasts posts as nothing seems to have changed for children as no one seems to care. I can only keep on writing and hope that this time will be the right one.

when will 5000 be page 3 – a requiem for Arti and too many others

5000 – 208 – 3.4
