Bitcoin is for Goonies

On the day Mt.Gox shut down, I came across an article with a headline that went something like:

“Proof that Women are smarter than men” followed by the tagline “More men than women use Bitcoin.”

I was so incredibly annoyed by that headline that I didn’t even bother reading the article. My first thought was “What exactly does that say about me?” After all, I am a die-hard supporter of Bitcoin and all that it stands for. When Mt.Gox officially announced that it had filed for bankruptcy, all I could think about was buying up more BTC!

That night, I had dinner at a swanky Tel Aviv restaurant with a dear friend of mine who knows absolutely nothing about Bitcoin. I made a joke about someday paying for his overpriced (albeit fabulous) steak with only half a Bitcoin.

“Don’t you get it??” He scoffed, brutally slicing into the juicy sirloin. “Bitcoin went bankrupt!”

I nearly choked on the succulent, buttery shrimp. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He actually thought that Mt. Gox owned Bitcoin! Ignorance is such a terrible thing.

A few days later he walked up to me with a grim expression, stuck somewhere in between disappointment and total awe — “The price of Bitcoin went back up.” He said. Yep, he could have made a cool couple grand had he followed my advice that night.

Shoulda… woulda… coulda.

There is something not right about us not wanting to embrace this new, potentially liberating, digital currency. Humans are curious creatures by design. We thrive on taking journeys into the unknown and exploring new ideas, testing our limits and truly aiming to go where no man has gone before. Why, then, are we holding back on Bitcoin?

What is it about this new currency that scares people so much? Is it because we’ve simply learned to love our slavery ? Why are we so suspicious of crypto currencies in general? And why the hell do we not scrutinize other currencies with as much scepticism as we do Bitcoin?

People argue that Bitcoin is “too unpredictable”, “unstable”; they say it is used by “criminals on Silk Road”, and what not, but consider this:

— Like all currencies, Bitcoin fluctuates, albeit more dramatically than main stream, centralized currencies. It’s highs are HIGHS and lows are LOWS. Although, statistically, it has always adjusted surprisingly well.

— BTC can indeed be used by shady types but the last time I checked, cash was favoured by hard-core criminals, drug traffickers, gun runners, corrupt governments, pimps and ho’s. Should we outlaw cash?

— BTC is not 100% stable. Then again, no currency is safe from collapse these days. The 2008 melt down proved that point. If it’s not enough for you, ask anyone in Greece, Spain or Cyprus.

— Hackers can access to your BTC account and wipe you out, completely. Well, it’s not that easy actually but for the sake of argument, hackers break into bank accounts, steal credit cards, ruin peoples credit ratings and get away with it, every single day.

I can go on and on but rather than focus on the negative aspects that are continuously churned out by the Corporate owned media, let’s look at Bitcoins’ more salient qualities:

— You’re cutting out the middleman. It’s a private transaction between you and the other individual you’re trading with. The current Establishment doesn’t like this for obvious reasons which is why they are doing everything in their power to stop Bitcoin.

— You can spend it wherever, however you want. Nobody can tell you how to spend it or what you can and cannot buy with it. There is no third party to censor your purchase so if you want to play poker or a few hands of blackjack online, go ahead! Enjoy.

— Bitcoin is a network and everyone that joins the network is a valued contributor.

— Everyone pays a small mining fee for each transaction which ultimately goes right back into the system to create more BTC. The fee is usually very small and fair for everyone. Learn more about BTC fees here.

— Contrary to popular belief, BTC is not 100% anonymous but, imho, it is anonymous enough to make it the safest option for e-commerce and mobile transactions.

— BTC is fundamentally about sharing. Sharing is a basic human instinct and essential to the survival of the human race.

— Bitcoin is a monetary revolution!! I don’t know about you but I am sick and tired of paying greedy banks outrageous fees that make no sense! Besides, did you honestly think we were going to use plastic forever?!

— Bitcoin cannot be counterfeited. If you LEARN about how BTC mining actually works, you will understand why.

— Bitcoin cannot be controlled by any one single entity, ever. If you LEARN about its genius design, you will understand why (so just forget all of that New World Order bullshit).

I absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, believe that one day, BTC will be a common currency. It will be adopted by BRICS, for sure, and someday it will be widely used and accepted by people like you and me. I’m not a criminal, or some corrupt government official. I’m not hiding from anyone or trying to hurt other people. I just want to keep more of my hard earned money.

My rational mind tells me that, as a responsible citizen of the world, I must contribute to this trailblazing monetary revolution. It could very well liberate us all from a tyrannical, corrupt, oppressive monetary system owned and controlled by a handful of greedy Robber Barons that have accumulated their wealth by defrauding, lying, stealing and riding on the backs of hard working citizens of the world.

If we could all take a step back long enough and allow ourselves to become the audience of humanity, I am certain that most of us would recognize the blatant sheer fallacy before us. It’s all there on the surface, we don’t even have to look too far to see that we are working harder and earning less. We are feeding into a broken system that is not even NATURAL! This beast has managed to divide us AND conquer us. We are living in constant fear of losing our jobs, our homes, our livelihoods and still, it demands more and more from us every single, blasted day.

When will this madness end? How much more media bullshit are you willing to suck up, regurgitate and spit out before waking up to the truth? “What truth is that?” That under the current monstrous monetary system, you are powerless; you are an amoeba, on a flea, on a rat and it does NOT give a damn about you.

Bitcoin was designed to give people back their power! That’s why it was created! Well, I’m taking back my power. I’M TAKING IT ALL BACK!

Stop being afraid of Bitcoin. Don’t allow yourself to be manipulated and brainwashed by the shallow disinformation agents that scattered throughout the world, reading more or less the same carefully scripted words from bloody Teleprompters’ that are controlled by a cold and calculated corporate elite.

It’s time for you to get mad and do something. Take action, educate yourself! Install a wallet on your computer, (nobody has to know) and buy your first Bitcoin. If you can’t afford one, buy half of one, one third, whatever you can afford but start reclaiming what’s rightfully yours. Start feeding a new machine that stands for true equality, true FREE TRADE. Bitcoin is a new tool that has the potential to unshackle us all from the grips of this single-minded Octopus that right now is sucking the very life out of us.

I’m not recommending that you invest your entire savings. I’m not saying that you should go out and buy thousands, but what I AM saying is that people should buy whatever they could afford in order to support this brilliant, phenomenal and truly fair system which may very well be our only true Salvation.

If you own a business, start accepting Bitcoin. It’s the easiest Merchant Account you’ll ever sign up for, trust me, I know. I proudly accept Bitcoin and encourage everyone that I do business with to adopt it as a payment option because it’s the right thing to do.

If you have ever wanted to contribute to some great cause or do something meaningful in your pathetic, glamorous life, NOW is your chance. No matter how much or little you buy, your contribution ABSOLUTELY matters.

A word of advice: When you do decide to buy Bitcoin, buy from a trusted exchange. Think of Bitcoin as the purest form of cash, which it is. Would you hand over your cash to just any shmuck on the street? Of course not. As long as you educate yourself and take precautions, you shouldn’t have any problems. Personally, I prefer to keep my wallet on my computer rather than with a Cloud based exchange like Mt. Gox. You can back up your wallet several ways which means that even if your computer dies, you won’t lose your coins.
