If you’re like a good chunk of gamers out there, you probably did not get the ill-fated Nintendo Wii U. I don’t blame you.

As somebody who missed out on a few years’ worth of gaming myself, I decided to skip the console and jump straight to the Switch, even though I knew I’d be missing gaming gold like Super Mario Maker.

I still don’t regret missing out on the Wii U’s library – they’ll be porting the best games over to the Switch, right? – but man, the sheer creativity exhibited by the Super Mario Maker community is amazing. You’ve got difficult stages that seem to come straight out of hell, faithful reproductions of classic Mario stages, creative remixes of the Mario formula, and homages to other games.

Speaking of homages to other games, André from GameXplain actually took several months to craft a Super Mario Maker stage that approximates the Great Plateau in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It uses clever solutions to ensure that you experience the first four shrines in 8-bit with Super Mario Maker’s limited tools.
