Detroit Realities #715

A Wayne County Consultant was negotiating for both sides of a $533 million deal. The definition of a conflict-of-interest. Tony Saunders was simultaneously working for Dan Gilbert’s Rock Ventures as well as consulting for Wayne County on their deal to develop a new county jail. The County’s Auditor says it is a clear breach of ethics; county commissioners were not notified and he did not file any required disclosures.

In a case of Detroit road rage, one driver shot at another car on I-94 near M-10 and hit a man in the leg, just around rush hour. Yeah, it is totally safe to pass-through Detroit on the highway…

In yet another tragic child death: a 7-year-old girl was killed while crossing I-94 by the Detroit Airport at 3am. What? How? Her father, totally drunk, ran off I-94 and struck an abandoned vehicle and came to a rest at some fencing. His daughter texted 911 for help for her father and began walking along I-94 to get help when a car struck and killed her.

In injustice news, James Saltmarshall of Inkster, sadly fell asleep and rolled onto his 8-month old daughter, suffocating her to death. The medical examiner confirmed this is exactly what occurred. But hospital staff and the Inkster police concocted a story of rape/murder of his daughter. Thankfully, the charges were dismissed – so now he’s suing 3 detectives and the doctors that conspired to frame him for sexual assault and murder.

Not a Dream Cruise for this guy: a 39-year old from Bloomfield Hills lost control of his Lamborghini Huracan on Woodward and Long Lake. He smashed into a tree in the center median, destroying the car and was arrested for DUI.

Dozens of Detroit homes are flooded after a huge water-main break near Palmer Park. Water is 4-5 feet high above ground and basements have 1-2 feet of water. One resident said, “Water pumps don’t help because more water is coming in than they can pump out.”

A 3-year-old girl was found wandering on Detroit’s East Side. The 11th Police Precinct is searching for her parents.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • Detroit Police are searching for someone that took shots at them while responding to a 911 call
  • Detroit Police are investigating a man’s body where the killer tried to burn it with gasoline, south of 8 Mile Road, east of the Southfield Freeway

  • Detroit Police are investigation 2 fatal shooting at two different locations Sat. morning
  • A 14-year-old Detroiter survived being shot in the back after an argument at midnight
  • There were 2 carjackings overnight by armed suspects in Detroit residential areas
  • A drunk was asked to leave a greektown business, he returned with a gun and took several pot shots at the business before fleeing
  • In west Wayne County, a 51-year-old man, Christian Gardner, was arrested after stabbing a woman and barricading himself inside a home. Although stabbed several times, the woman will survive
