rocks in the china cabinet

He said “I found another Agate for you” as he pulled a little rock out of the pocket of his dog-walking jacket and put it on the kitchen counter.

He’s brought me Agate rocks for a long time. Some I kept in a box and gave to my grandson when he was a little rock hound learning about them in science and some I put in the fish tank.  Some I put in my plants and some I have lately put in my China Cabinet along with my other treasures.  It took me awhile to really see the treasure in the offering of rocks that showed up on my counter, on the table or were handed to me as we walked.

When I go for a walk, I march – a steady pace meant to get somewhere. When he walks, he walks with mindfulness.  As Psychology Today tell us “mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present.  When you’re mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad.  Instead of letting your life pass  you by, mindfulness  means living in the moment and awakening to experience.” I could learn something from how he walks.

The thing about Agate –  well I never asked him.  I just know he loves them. Right now I have a little one in the secret compartment of my wallet that he handed me when we were out the other day waiting for the dog to have a pee. He bent down, picked it up out of the gravel and said “I found another agate for you.”

So what is it about Agate? I did some reading about them and found out a few things:

  • Agate is a stone of strength.  It enhances creativity and strengthens intellect.
  • Agate is a very protective stone.
  • Agate gives courage, emotional strength and dispels fears.
  • Agate is a stone of marital and romantic fidelity, strengthens the connection to the earth.
  • White Agate are considered stones of hope.

There is much to learn about the magic of rocks; the strength and colours, and the power that you can’t explain but can feel as you hold the rock in your hand.

There is much I can learn from the magic of the rocks in my china cabinet. The mindfulness as he wanders in the moment finding them and the power in the sharing with me. “I found this Agate for you.”
