PUT ME IN COACH !!!

Tags: coach
Several years ago, my imagination was captured by an interesting way a pastor tried to fire people up to get out there to minister to others with service, prayer, sharing the gospel etc. I heard him share this on a radio program I was listening to on my way home from work when we lived in Las Vegas (truly a land of the lost).

He likened God's harvest field to a baseball game. Many players are "out there" but you are sitting on the bench. You are perfectly content to sit there and watch "the game" play out with little or no involvement whatsoever. He exhorted the listeners to make it a daily prayer to "Put Me In Coach" and began to sing the Creedence Clearwater Revival hit "Centerfield" Put me in coach! I'm ready to play, today! Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today, look at me, I could be, Centerfield. These words conjure up the image of a baseball player so fired up about getting into the game that he endlessly beseeches the coach to get him off the bench and into the game. He is literally chomping at the bit!

For us, as believers, our coach (Heavenly Father) wants all of us to "get into the game" and all we need to do is pray for ministry opportunities to come our way. When we sing "Put me in Coach" that is our way of telling Him "I'm ready today to be open to the opportunities for ministry that I know You will put in my path. Help me to recognize them and then 'hit it out of the park' " So how about it? Are you ready to get up each day and when your feet hit the floor start singing, "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today" ?
