Freaknik revisited

Check out that mustache. Classic.
If you know anything of the history of Atlanta, GA you might recall a little annual shindig put together for the black folks called Freaknik. It was the A's answer for a Spring Break event designed to keep the historical black college students from traveling hundreds of miles to celebrate (ie spend money) elsewhere. Well, I guess they had good intentions, but when you get hundreds of black people in one place, more often than not, some shit is going to go down. And it did. It took a few years but by that last year (1999)the kids were too rowdy, the girls too stupid to realize if they strip on top of a car something may happen, and the traffic...horrendous. Whose idea was it to park on the side of the freeway, crank up their radio and dance?

Or course, this is the observations of a 12 year old who wasn't allowed to participate in the festivities. All the info I got on it came from my sister, who was 23, the music, the news and what I saw if I happened to be near what was going on in the vicinity of my parents every time. There were concerts and festivals and plenty of events not geared towards tits and ass. But that was all I saw and heard about it. Go fig. By the that last year I was 16-17 and the event was too infamous (in a bad way) for me to even consider going.

Well anyway, that was 11 years ago and now in 2010, they tried to bring it back for some unknown reason. Of course the new Freaknik was not as glorious as its legendary run in the 90's. Not by a long shot and the cops and the kids today are probably the reason. However, one good thing did come out it. Freaknik the Musical.

Behold, my lovelies, and witness the best animated reproduction of a real event ever created. And I must say, though I did put him down a couple years ago and I stand by it, T-Pain did his thing. I can give credit where credits due sometimes.
