Our Trip To Denver, Day Two–Visiting Estes Park

On the way to Estes Park

On the second day of our trip to Colorado to visit my daughter, we all decided to drive to Estes Park. As soon as we got on the road outside my daughter’s apartment complex, you could see the mountains off in the distance. It is no mystery why she loves living here. This area is just so beautiful.

Estes Park, Colorado.

Estes Park was just about an hour and a half drive from Becca’s apartment. Seth and I were in awe of the scenery the whole way. Neither one of us had ever been to Colorado before, so it was all new to us. The photo above was taken at a scenic pullout at the edge of town. Those mountains—gorgeous!

Me and my daughter, Becca. We had such a good time together.

It seems like where ever I go, if I need someone to take my picture, there is usually someone who will do it. The guy took several shots, this one was the best.

My son, Seth, and my daughter, Becca. I’m sure they were over there planning some sort of mischief just like they did when they were little.

Not really. They were discussing where to go next. We decided to go up Mount Evans. It’s the highest peak in the Chicago Peaks in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.   The road to the summit of Mount Evans is the highest paved auto road in North America, at 14,260 feet above sea level. We decided to drive up there, and stay until after dark, so that we could see all the stars and The Milky Way. But, before we reached the summit, there was a huge scenic pullout, and the road to the summit was closed from that point. We’ll have to go back to Colorado now to see that.

Elk grazing along the roadside in Rocky Mountain National Park.

We did get to see a herd of Elk grazing along the roadside in Rocky Mountain National Park. They were in rut, which means it’s mating season. We saw some bucks fighting too. It was awesome!

One huge buck Elk.

The bull elk above was one of the two that we saw locking antlers. The display was awesome! The bucks don’t fight to the death, it is just a display of strength. The winner of the contest gets the cows!

Since we couldn’t go any further up the mountain, we decided to go back down to Estes Park and get something to eat. More about that tomorrow.
