Most people assume that students who decided to pursue a career in Political Science aspire to become politicians but that’s rarely the case. Many political science students have a very different type of career in mind.

Most students who get a degree in political science aren’t interested in becoming a politician so much as they are fascinated by current events and how a single action can change the world. The students enjoy spending time with likeminded people and often engage in lengthy debates with one another.

After completing their degree, most of the students go on to have careers in the non-profit or corporate world, though some do become campaign managers or even candidates themselves.

There are several employers who love learning that one of their applicants majored in political science. Before the applicant even walks through the door, the employer knows that they’re about to meet someone who thinks quickly, isn’t afraid to take action when action is needed, and has a real go-getter personality. Political students are often placed into leadership positions.

One of the first things most people notice about Political Science Majors is that they are very passionate people. They can talk for hours about a topic they either love or hate, and the discussion generally includes a detailed, well thought out list of reasons for their opinion. Well the passion is commendable, it can also be intense.

It is not at all unusual for political science majors to eventually return to their roots and start teaching. Most love teaching because it gives them an opportunity to surround themselves with others like themselves and to openly discuss topics that are often deemed to controversial in other settings.

A degree in political science means a young adult will have many career paths they can follow.
