Rating: Two out of a possible five stars
This is the Story of the author's long term marriage to Upton Brady, a brilliant but alcoholic man who loved other men as well as her.
The writing promises enough to keep the pages turning but it never quite delivers. Too much ink is used in persuading the reader that this marriage was "as deep and strong as it was mysterious and complex" and far too little in telling the story.
The book seems to have suffered from misguided editing informed by market research, and focused on maximizing sales. In the end, the image created of Upton is that of a man more alcoholic than brilliant more gay than bisexual and more tryannt than parent or spouse. An image more expose' than memoir.
