Time Breastfeeding Cover Causes Debate

The recent Cover of Time magazine is a picture of a 3-year-old boy, standing on a chair, suckling on his mother's breast, with the picture is a title, "Are You Mom Enough?"

There are many mothers who are raising their eyebrows with this Time breastfeeding cover. On the cover is Jamie Lyn Grumet and her 3-year-old son. She claimed that she was breastfed by her mom until she was 6 years old. She also said that many have approached her against breastfeeding her 3-year-old son and threaten to report her to child services.

Although I am a supporter of breastfeeding and I respect the mother's choice on when to stop breastfeeding, I do not find the cover pleasing to my eye, specially the title. The cover does not show that there was love in breastfeeding. It seems that the mother just stands there and bare her breast for her child to feed without even looking at him or an arm around him which could have signify that the act is an act of love. Breastfeeding is a connection of the mother to her child, not only feeding him. It is a bond between the mother and the child.

I know that Time magazine put this cover to initiate reactions from the readers, regardless it's a pro or a con. I personally believe that it is a step back to breastfeeding campaign.
