Why am I surprised?

Today was are in NJ for my cousin's baby shower tomorrow.  We hit the road at 10am this Morning and got here around 4 - the girls are running around the hotel.  Thank goodness for big all-suite hotels!  Now this is not the total purpose of this post..here we go...I wrote a note and sent it in to Toodles' School (she is in 8th grade) on Monday telling them she will be absent today (Friday).  I spoke with a few of her teacher, they called to let me know they would help her with her assignments due the day of absence.  This morning I receive a VM at home and on my cell (and on my hubby's cell) from the school.  I called them back as soon as I could ( about 20 min) and explained to the principal that I had sent in a note regarding my daughter being absent today.  He said, "Oh OK I will let them know."  Hubby get home tonight and calls me here at the hotel says there was a notice on our door from the truancy officer (left at 1pm -- I spoke with the principal at 9:45am).  Then tonight I get a VM on my cell from the Truancy officer telling me to call him back as soon as possible.  SO I do and I explain to him that I sent in a note AND spoke to the principal this morning.  He isn't surprised and says, "Lake of communications, that is the norm from up there."  Here I am doing what I am supposed to do and the police are looking for my daughter! lol  OK maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but the lack of competency in the administration of my daughter's school is ridiculous.  It is just that school too, because the school department is wonderful.  Why am I surprised?!?!
