Isaiah 64:4 New King James Version (NKJV)

For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You,Who acts for the one who waits for Him.
He acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.

1. Waiting tests our faith; only those who really believe in God's provision are prepared to wait for it.

1 Peter 1:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV) In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

Only that passes the test is accepted by God as genuine.

2. Waiting purifies our motives.

3. Waiting builds our character to maturity.

James 3:1-4 New King James Version (NKJV)The Untamable TongueMy brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed,[a] we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.

A person who has learnt to wait is no longer at the mercy of fluctuating moods and emotions. He or she has acquired confidence and stability. In God's time, these characteristics will prove of inestimable value in building a strong, successful marriage.
