ACHEIVEMENTS CANNOT BE SEPARATED FROM GOAL SETTING (Part 1)

Am rock sure that there are so many things in your life by now that you ought to have achieved or accomplished, but some how you haven’t?

Perhaps if I ask you to point to many reasons why you weren’t able to achieve them; you would say something like, lack of time, lack of proper planning etc. Left to me, am of the opinion that what you wanted to achieve in the first place wasn’t a goal.

At the start of the year, am sure you had so many things on your wish list you wanted to achieve before the year runs out, but fast forward a few months, and those lists were thrown somewhere around the corner.

Tell me am reading your mind at the moment? At some point in life, we know the goals we wish to achieve, but what we don’t realize is the role we are to play in reaching those goals. Knowing, wishing and desiring are NOT enough to bring your goals to accomplishment. You are to back up your goals with corresponding action.

Why not follow me and let with share with you some top secrets that will enable you achieve your goals before the year runs out.

The first thing you must be able to do is to separate wishes from goals. Wishes are what I call the nice things of life. They are based on fantasies and are things that we would like to have in our possession or within our reach but won’t be hurt or disappointed if we don’t have them. True goals emanate out of the need to have zones of your life.

A true goal must come with a sense of urgency and importance and will nearly destroy you if you don’t accomplish them.

Goals like, “I want to have wealth”, “I’d like to travel the world” or “I’d like to ride solid cars” cannot be considered as goals but mere wishes.Any goal you’ll set for yourself must be “S.M.A.R.T” which is an acronym for (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Time Bound). Let me throw more light on these.

Let us suggest a SMART goal.Your Goal: to save 2.5 million in 10 months and buy a blue Toyota Avensis 2.0 by December 24th, 2009.

As you can see, this goal is Specific (we know exactly the kind of car we want to buy, what color and when it must be achieved – any dream that doesn’t have a deadline is termed DEAD).

Next, it must be Measurable (the amount you save can help track your progress). You can gather 2.5 million by saving 250,000 on monthly basics.

Your goal must be Achievable (it must be a goal that is reachable and one that can inspire you to action). For every goal you desire, there is a price attached to it and you must pay that price to have access to the PRIZE.

The next step is that it must be Realistic (it’s got to be do-able) and finally, it has to be Time Bound (have a specific timeline, in this case, December 24th, 2009). It must have a start and a stop date attached to it.

The above steps can be applied to any goal you want to achieve. Apply the SMART rule to your goals and see wonders happen in your life.
