...Because today apparently was a busy day throughout Black history, here's a rundown of quick links of events that have occurred on February 17. Learn something.

Huey Newton, founder of the Black Panther Party, was born on this day in 1942.

Naval frigate USS Jesse L. Brown was commissioned on this day in 1973. It was named after Jesse L. Brown, the first African-American Naval Officer to lose his life in the Korean War. Respect.

A.C. Richardson patented the butter church, on this day in 1891, revolutionizing the food industry. He would later invent the casket lowering device. Ironic, he invented something that would make it easier to get a fattening killer, and the device that puts them in the ground.
