Working a steady day job is a good way to secure a solid income, but wouldn’t it be great to have a little more to save towards that summer holiday, or invest in that new tool for the DIY project you’re itching to get done?

Up until last month I was sharing a different idea every Saturday to help you discover all of the different ways you can make a little extra Money and although I’ve stopped these posts over the Summer, I have some great ones lined up for you for when the kids go back to school.

I’ve been planning which ‘How to make money’ posts today actually and I realised that I never actually mentioned that there was going to be a Summer break so I thought I’d write a post to do just that!  Obviously that would be a pretty boring post so I thought I’d give you a quick recap on some of the posts we’ve covered already in the series.

All you need for most of these ideas is a laptop, an internet connection and a few hours of dedication every week…..

How to make money selling things on eBay

Selling stuff on eBay is about as easy as it sounds. Find some stuff you don’t want, photograph it, upload the details and asking price and you’re in business. The first step is scouring your house and looking for items you no longer want but still have value. An old vacuum cleaner consigned to the dusty alcove, that leather jacket that is two sizes too small for you or the two hundred Stephen King novels you collected as a teenager – these are all saleable items. If you have absolutely nothing you want to get rid of then another option would be to scour car boot sales, thrift stores or a secondhand market for some good deals that you can then resell online.

How to make money Blogging

Blogging is quite possibly one of the most fun ways to make money online, but it requires some steady commitment if you’re going to make it work. Blogging, unfortunately, does not yield money overnight but requires a long term devotion before it’ll start to pay dividends. There are several different ways to monetize your blog once your site is up and running and has a decent amount of traffic.

Sponsored posts are probably the most popular way of securing income through blogs. Bloggers write and compose editorial posts that are commissioned by a company or agency. These posts either advertise a certain product or service, or else link back to the company sponsoring the content. Other methods of making money include affiliate marketing or referral marketing – recommending a product or service then receiving a commission whenever a reader clicks on the recommended link – as well as pay per click advertising via an advertising service such as Google AdSense.

Become an Online Tutor

If bestowing knowledge on to a younger generation appeals to you, then online tutoring is an excellent way to make money. The flexibility is one of the most appealing aspects. Since it works on an hourly basis, you can take on as much or as little work as you want in your spare time. A good way to start is by signing up with an online tutoring agency such as tutor.com. Alternatively, you could simply advertise the skills you’d like to teach on Craigslist or Gumtree.

How to make money by becoming a Freelance Writer

If you have a penchant for the written word then freelance writing is a worthwhile pursuit. Websites such as Freelancer or Elance offer a multitude of available writing jobs. Simply create a profile and bid for the jobs you’d like to take on. Not only is this a great way to make money in your spare time, it’s also an excellent way to build a portfolio if writing is something you’d like to pursue in the future. Freelance sites also offer a number of other opportunities for freelancing such as web and graphic design.

How to make money entering competitions and doing surveys

This is one of those ways to make money that lots of people don’t bother with because at first glance the money you make might not add up to much but honestly it really does add up super quickly.
