OK, I’m going to let you in on a little secret right now and you may not look at me in the same way ever again!

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A Star Wars MOVIE.  EVER.

There’s hope for me though because even though I’ve never watched the films themselves, I still consider myself a bit of a Star Wars expert because Mr Frugal is a bit (actually much more than a bit) of a Star Wars fan boy.   He tried to introduce me to the films when we first got together but I’d gone 17 years of my life without ever feeling the need to watch one and I really had other things I wanted to be doing.  I sighed twice in the first few minutes and he got angry and turned it off in a strop saying I wasn’t taking it seriously.

Even now, after we’ve been together for what feels like a hundred years, we’ve never tried again to watch the films together.

It’s OK though, you don’t need to feel too sorry for him because he’s got a new partner in crime!

When Miss Frugal and I went away together leaving the boys at home, it seems that they had a Star Wars marathon weekend where they worked their way through the entire collection.

It seems that Mr Frugal introduced his son to his favourite films and has created another mad fan!

Now they swap Star Wars jokes and will often come out with a Star Wars quote during a conversation and it’s like their own little private joke seeing as Miss Frugal and I have no clue what they’re talking about!

It’s odd that they’ve never watched the films together but I think Mr Frugal wanted to wait until he knew he was old enough to feel the same love of the films that he felt when he first watched them.  Over the years, he’s ‘prepared’ him for the films with the Star Wars Lego games, numerous dressing up costumes, epic light sabre battles in the back garden and random Star Wars toys whenever he could.  These are just a few of our Star Wars photos from over the years (what did we do before we had Instagram to capture everything?).

I think Mr Frugal is loving seeing his favourite films through the eyes of his son and I think he secretly wants me and Miss Frugal to cross over to the dark side next and watch along with them.  I think he might have a long wait though!

It’s actually quite fitting that Master Frugal has finally watched the films with his Dad as this year is the 40th anniversary of the release of the film and to celebrate, a new set of junior Star Wars novels have been released by Egmont including the 40th Anniversary copy of A New Hope.  I’m loving the fact that Master Frugal has actually been enjoying reading since I handed over the first book in the series, A New Hope, to him and hope that this reignites his love of reading which has definitely dwindled over the past few years as he doesn’t seem to find what he’s reading interesting despite the variety of books we’ve tried to tempt him with.

I think it’s the familiarity of the characters and the story line he already loves that is keeping his interest and all I can say is that I hope it lasts through the full set of books and hopefully, beyond!

I’m looking forward to some peace on holiday next week while Master Frugal reads his books!
