Holiday Driving

While Driving around town today I noticed that traffic seemed a little more robust than usual. The holidays give a great deal of incentive for shoppers to start up the car and head off to the mall, I can understand that. But I do not understand the aggressive driving that seemed to occur much more frequently today. While on the road I followed the training of my driving instructor and maintained a car length apart from other cars; but there were occasions where other drivers would attempt to rush into my little space at alarming speed, forcing me to slow down quickly. What if I didn't have a car length of space there? What if the driver behind me happened to be too close? What if I didn't slow down to let the driver into my space?

At the time, these questions weren't the first items on my list to consider. I was a tad alarmed, but not enough to be angry. But later on I passed by a four car collision with an ambulance on the scene and I wondered if those involved enjoyed the same relatively carefree attitude with each other - probably not.

Perhaps what is most concerning is that these people are not even under the influence of drugs or alcohol, yet their driving threatens the safety of the people around them. Sure everyone gets to see that kind of driving early in the morning or during rush hour traffic, but it becomes my problem when that manner of driving invades my space. I find myself waving my hands over the dash for the 'DESTROY' button, and yet the truth sets in that I don't have one - the vanity! I can't begin to describe the emptiness in my heart. My only solace is the satisfying dream of these beasts on the receiving end of a traffic ticket!

Who knows, maybe I am a conceited fool. Perhaps these maniacs were rushing to the hospital, or busy saving the world.... Ha!
