#MeToo Meets Christmas Music

Since I don’t live under a rock, I’m well aware of the #MeToo movement happening, and it’s almost awe-inspiring to see the dominoes continue to fall. It’s also obviously getting closer to Christmas, and I’ve switched to streaming Christmas Music at work, which led to an unsettling observation. Each of the past couple of years at Christmas, I’ve seen the social media posts regarding the song, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” and how it’s really condoning date rate and sexual harassment. If you’ve never paid attention to the lyrics, here you go.

I couldn’t help but notice just how OFTEN I’ve been hearing this song. Like once every couple of hours, and it just struck me as odd that this year, of all years, I seem to hear this particular song so much. You’d think the opposite would be true, as we watch one person after another resign when their actions come to light. By the way, this wasn’t just one radio station. Multiple stations through iHeartRadio. Another example of how much we’ve normalized this.
