Today has been a journey so far , Thanksgiving for me has always been family only and nice and quiet. The Thanksgiving day parade , getting cooking started , and just relaxing until the food is done. Well not today. I woke up at 5:30am because El wanted breakfast and pumpkin pie so I got up happy , and in a good mood , went out and got what my baby wanted. When I got home it was about 6am and the kids for some reason were awake and adamant to start the day. We all ate breakfast and El was still tired and wanted to take a nap , the 16lb turkey didn’t have to go the oven and the parade didn’t start until 9am so I decided to take a nap with her. The kids weren’t having it , I don’t know why maybe excitement so we just put on cartoons for the kids so we could get a little more rest. The 7 year old woke me up from slamming the cats cage door open and close and both kids couldn’t stay quiet so about an hour latter I woke up pretty pissed off. For the rest of the morning screaming , yelling , talking back , laughing like being yelled at was funny , just a very rough start to the day.
Finally 9am came around and I prepped the turkey and El wanted a pot of boiled vegetables such as carrots , cabbage , turnips , potatoes , and onions and finally got that all cooking. Everything else like the rolls , stuffing , corn , mashed potatoes , gravy , didn’t take long at all so we all went in me and El’s room to watch the parade. The kids as usual continued to ruin that but El and I made the best of it. The food was all finally done and done right around 1pm so El , me , and the kids all sat down and ate , the most relaxed everyone has been all day.
El asked if it would be ok if her friend came by for like an hour at first I instantly got pissed off cause like I said before I didn’t want another shitty holiday , just once I would like my damn family but my wife’s happiness means everything to me so I said yes and dealt with it. She’s here now leaving in a couple minutes. As she’s getting ready to leave my stepsons fathers on his way to pick him up , so this Thanksgiving has been a challenge and a test to my patience and even sanity but I’m still alive and surprisingly haven’t started a fight which is good.
By this time they have left and now just waiting for my stepson’s father to get here and take him for a bit so hot coffee , pajamas , pumpkin pie and relaxation.
