Reflect, Relax, and Remember: A Hike in the Woods

Reflect, Relax, and Remember:  A Hike in the Woods

It was ten in the morning on a Saturday. Myself, my son and one of his friends head out from my place to go on a Hike. First, we load into the car and take off from the city. Then, about an hour later, we all pour out of the car at the trailhead. We start out walking together, but within the first half an hour, their youthful enthusiasm helps them get ahead of me. As long as they are within line of sight, they're fine. As my son and his friend continue to move forward, I hang back taking pictures, breathing the fresh air, thinking back years ago when I was my son's age and walking on this very trail. I can hear them laughing, having a good time, but moving forward.

As the day progresses, the humidity stays low, and we continue checking the blazes moving on the trail.  Over boulders, around waterfalls, and through steep inclining grades: we made our way through the terrain with minimal problems. Eventually, we hiked to the other end of the trail and walked back to the car. As we rode over to "Five Guys" for lunch, the kids already started planning their next adventure.

The best part was, for a while, the kids didn't need electronic tablets, TVs, movies or even videos to entertain them. They were entertained the old fashioned way, by getting out there and doing something. They were chatting back and forth, planning, and really getting excited about their next adventures. The world is a fascinating place. Sometimes, you just have to lift your head over the tablet screen to see it. That's all for the blog! If you have any questions, please type them in below.
