Family, Formality, and Fowl: How to maintain order during Thanksgiving

Tags: kid facebook
Thanksgiving is to see your family, catch up on old times, enjoy a meal together: much like our forefathers did in the days of the pilgrims and the Native Americans. Just like anything else, you need to have a strategy on how to: keep the kids busy, not underfoot, and making sure that you have some time to enjoy the holiday.

Introduction
Thanksgiving is a time for family. It is a time for the various relatives to get together, enjoy a good conversation, and have some turkey. The first settlers to this land had the same thoughts as they prepared for the first Thanksgiving. Also, just like at the first Thanksgiving, The Pilgrims had children sitting at the table. Everybody seems to be an expert and continuously deliver parenting advice that you've already found out is "not true."  Today's blog entry it is how to maintain order with your kids, when they are in a new environment, with new people, and did you not have some of the same tools as you would at home to take care of it.

Fighting Boredom
Kids have a very short attention span. At home, you have the tools to take care of their boredom. It could be having time on the tablet, watching a movie on the TV, claiming the favorite toys, going outside and see their friends there are a lot of outlets for them to let out their speed. When someone else's house it's somebody else's rules. It might be that they don't want to watch SpongeBob because they're used to watching PBS. Supported is one of the most significant issues what's the kids understand I like hanging out with other kids, not with adults.

Here are some suggestions on how to handle kids boredom:
  • Google Maps
  • Make a plan
  • Share the responsibility
  • Social Inclusion Activities

Google Maps
Use your computer, go to Google Maps, type in their address, and look at the images of relative's house. Look for playgrounds for a school somewhere close to the relative's house. So if you know there's a playground nearby, you can always take your kid over to the stadium and watch them play on the equipment. If there's no playground nearby, then take them for a walk around the block. You can see how big the chunk is by using Google Maps. Combining exercise and TV time is a winning strategy. It's a winning strategy for the parents, the kids, and your other relatives.

Make a plan
We there are a bunch of kids at your house, what were the other parents to implement strategies, so all the kids and use devices go outside and do other things. Come up with a game plan so the kids can go out and have some outside time as well as inside watch TV or be sedentary.

Share the Responsibility
Remember, you are not alone. The same things which are affecting your kids affect other kids as well. If you know there's a playground nearby, then take the initiative, and bring all of the kids to the playground. If you paid a tablet for your kids to watch movies, gather all of the kids together to watch the film. Even collecting all of the kids and reading a book to them is a great idea. What beautiful memories your kids are going to have if you read them A Christmas Carol over Christmas time. Back in the olden days, you didn't have a TV (or mobile devices) to entertain the kids, and all they had were books. From the kid's perspective, it is easier to listen somebody read; then it is to look to their parents telling them what to do.

Social Inclusion Activities
Thanksgiving is one of those holidays which is better shared with family and friends. Sometimes, you only get everyone together for the holidays. An indoor activity that is good for the kids is to have them write postcards, call, or even Skype those who can not make it. Just like writing a few more toys on Santa's list, having them write a postcard keeps them focused, helps their writing skills, and makes them feel good.

Conclusion
Thanksgiving is to see your family, catch up on old times, enjoy a meal together: much like our forefathers did in the days of the pilgrims and the Native Americans. Just like anything else, you need to have a strategy on how to: keep the kids busy, not underfoot, and making sure that you have some time to enjoy the holiday.

Facebook Instant Articles
For those that follow me using a mobile Facebook app, you're going to see some changes. I'm going to be trying Facebook Instant Articles for a better, richer, experience. Facebook released Instant Articles in 2015. Facebook will receive my RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed, and host it on their site. By doing this, you can use the Facebook app for reading my posts and not the "mobile version" of this website. The benefits of boosting RSS feed directly to Facebook is that: 1) it will decrease the time in rendering the pages on your mobile device, and 2) it is a richer (graphical) experience than using a mobile version of Chrome or Firefox. Also, I am moving the writings of Nick Stockton off of my personal Facebook site to a single Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MPLnstockton/. If you haven't signed up for updates, please go to the site and do this now.

Thank you for reading this blog!. I hope you get something out of it. If there's a topic that you want me to address, please leave a comment below. If there is a Thanksgiving tactic that should be on the website also you that below.

The next blog, I haven't figured it out yet, so stay tuned for the next episode!
