Morn Hill – Caravan and Motorhome Club Site – Winchester

An old favourite of ours for a few reasons. Locality, 23 miles from home and our nearest site. Like a comfy pair of slippers we feel right at home.

The site is split into two levels, with Reception on the upper level. Met by CAMC wardens, who have been here for the last couple of seasons, we were checked in and advised which areas to aim for. Recent tree surgery and rain meant that a few of the Pitches were off limits and recovering.  With 105 pitches though there were still plenty to choose from.

Both levels have their own facilities block. Both blocks are slightly dated by CAMC standards but exceptionally clean and warm. With only 2 showers in the ladies I was pleased to see the majority walking to the Shower before bed, I’m a shower in the morning person, hopefully I’ll be ok tomorrow. The showers have excellent water pressure but the cubicles are quite small, a cold wet shower curtain blowing against your back certainly speeds up the shower process. Both blocks have dishwashing areas and laundry facilities. At present, April 2017, there is no Wifi but there are future plans to create a Wifi hotspot near reception. 4G reception on our O2 and Three Sim cards was very good.

Dogs are more than welcome and a barrel and bowl with fresh drinking water stands near the reception, with a dog walk sited on the lower level. Saying this, with the site being located close to the A31 walks from the site are limited.

The site is grass pitches only and welcomes members and non members with tents too. With well established trees and shrubs and extremely ample sized pitches. While the A31 runs by the site, it is mostly only notable during the rush hour periods and the site settles down quite peacefully during the day with birdsong the predominant sound, the grass pitches make sitting out far more pleasant than your typical stone hard standing, in good weather you can’t beat a grass pitch.

A well stocked information office is full to bursting with leaflets of things to do within the area. There is a bus stop into the centre of Winchester just outside the site.  Marwell Zoo is a 15 minute drive away and well worth a visit. The Watercress Steam Line is a short drive away in Alresford and Winchester Caravans is 10 minutes if you need any caravan related accessories whilst on site. If you are heading to the ports of Portsmouth or Southampton this site is also an ideal stopping point if you are going farther afield into Europe, but this site does not have an Early/Late Ferry arrival compound like the nearby Rookesbury Site.

This site remains our favourite ‘quick getaway’ and I imagine like previous years will see our van a few more times this season. On a sunny day it’s hard to beat this site.
