The Case

ab ye court bhaagega.

(Now he will run to Court.)

One of ‘them’ commented while walking past my window. It was nearly four Years Ago. I was living with my parents then, in the National Capital Region, and had recently filed a Police complaint against them for criminal intimidation. However, I had sent my complaint through email and was not aware of any action taken on it by the police, let alone any court proceedings. In fact, I am not aware of any such proceedings even until now. I wrote to the police several times, a few months ago, to enquire whether there had been any action taken after my second email complaining against police inaction and a policeman called me to inform that none had been.

‘They’ have mentioned a ‘case’ more than once though. One of them had also said, “Paape ka case register ho rahaa hai.” (The Sikh’s case is being registered.), soon after I had sent that second email all those years ago.

More recently, when I started looking online through the records of the local courts of the town where I used to live with my parents, one of ‘them’ anxiously blurted out, “Daraa rahaa hai kya?” (Is he trying to scare us?). It is quite another matter that I could not find any cases that named me as one of the parties. Obviously, if a case had been filed against some of ‘them’ by the State, I would not be able to identify it among the court records since I would not know the names of their men against whom the case had been filed.

So the question then arises that whether such a case exists or not. If I believe the police personnel I have been communicating with, then it does not. However, if ‘their’ comments are to be taken into account, then perhaps it does. If there indeed is such a case, it would certainly form a very plausible explanation for ‘their’ consistent attempts at trying to intimidate me over the past four years or so, but I am yet to figure out how to look for such a case.
