Not often you get that live feel from studio recordings, so ‘Guarded Young’ had me dreaming of favourable comparisons to some of our fave 90’s acts. Couldn’t look too far beyond Wheat, Teenage Fanclub, Swervedriver and Dinosaur Jr. either. Absorbing Stuff then from Birmingham troupe Mutes, intense and even claustrophobic at times but this is a swell arranged by conjuring intricate playing and harmonies that occupy the air. Devastating stuff. KH
