I felt the sadness, the wide-eyed resignation was apparent and all from such a low-ebbed base. The vocals are crucial in that respect, a clear invocation of a burning feeling that needed to be aired or risk internal combustion. ‘The Year’ is quiet and lovely and then the brass kicked in and it became even grander. Such a big little wow from Pennsylvania’s Elizabeth Phillipson-Weiner.
