Niet

Two guys from Portomaggiore decided to collaborate back in 2014 forming an intense fusion of sound where the elements of hardcore melds deliciously with grunge, noise  where their music draws you in, suffocates, releases and then starts the delightful turmoil again. Niet‘s (the band in question) latest ep “Dangerfield” has an addictive quality about it combined with curious radio interference Feedback between tracks, makes you stop and ponder “is this meant to happen” or is it a bizarre happenstance that adds intricate layers forcing the listener to stop and focus albeit momentarily, before getting swept up once again in their magic.

The sound is tight. The mixing exceptional. Lyrics whilst not Overly provocative are easily recognisable. Rhythms intensify to a point where you find yourself moving involuntarily wistfully desirous of wanting to see these boys live so see how they stack up against others whose influences can be heard but not replicated.

There is something rather charming about how in sync these guys are not just musically but we should think personally as they push you to their own limits adding unique flavours which allow them to stand out from others. The tiniest tweek of chord lies comfortably beside thunderous crashing of rhythm.

The ep has a mix of track layouts all tied with sprinkles of riffs that bring it together as what can only be described as a masterpiece of quality sound engineering and (yes, we know we have said this before) without any predictable overdub or feedback which admittedly does have its place but at times can be enough to make you want to turn the sound down, inwardly sigh and force you to get out and do ANYTHING to eradicate the aural insult. Dangerfied does NOT do that on any level.

Without being overly poetic each track takes you in to the dark followed by a rapid hurl to light. They seduce you, they reject you.  For us, “All Work and No Play” is by far the standout. So if you really want to explore international punk from a land far away…..in the words of a once iconic “music critic” do yourself a favour cause you most certainly will NOT be disappointed.
