What first drew you into hip-hop?
First of all, thank you for having me. Hip-Hop was and is the source of my expression. I felt special about Hip-Hop because it was a different culture from what I knew in the days I was living in South Korea. I went to international school and met this Hawaiian homie as a roommate. He introduced me to Eminem’s music. And from there I started listening to Pac, Biggie, Pusha T and UGK drew me into hip-hop.
Your track “Sinner” is very modern and sounds very professional. How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative processes like?
I appreciate it. At the time I was making “Sinner” I was having a hard time. I didn’t put it into my song but it actually started with the line “If I kill all these mother fuckers who give me pain, does that make me a sinner?” In verse 1, I’m a hurt man who’s angry about everything putting every situation to a bad conclusion. Blaming on everyone and everything but not myself. I felt bad, even things that I shouldn’t be angry or mad about. I was acting like a kid. But in verse 2 I finally realize that I am the problem. So I start with the line “I know that I’m blessed…” Meaning, Listen, I’m going to make an excuse and then, I ask for help. You know when one’s mind breaks, the body gets damaged too and it spins in that vicious circle? I was in there. I made this song at the end of the circle when I figured out I was tripping.
For creative process…
I watch a lot of movies and stand up comedies and I get many ideas from paintings, fashion, news, friends and many different things. I try to put every emotion into each song and write down like a diary.
You don’t mention any producers in some of your tracks, do you produce all of your beats yourself?
I put my name in the title when I produce the track like, “Sinner (Prod. Behavior)” The tracks that I don’t mention any producers are the tracks that I buy samples from different sites and just chop it up.
You recently started releasing a lot of tracks in a short period of time (Weekly basis), Do you plan to maintain this rapid release schedule.
Yes.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I want to look back my life from my albums, mixtapes whatever artform it is.. and become a better person. So I see a better person, better artist, better husband in 5 years.
What are your goals for this year, any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
I just released two versions of my mixtape “Day after Tomorrow: Motivation” There’s going to be two more. I’m also making collab mixtapes with other producers. And I’m also working on my full production mixtape. You can check it out every week on my Soundcloud. Thank you.
