Why Many Local Bands Fail

Tags: band music

There used to be a time when local bands thrived, they had a clearer path to success, and people here in North America were more into the Underground Music scene. The local music scene has witnessed a shift as a result of the Internet and many other factors. But is it still possible to succeed as a local Band in North America? Yes. But not if you take the same approach as the other local failures. Let me explain..

The United States has a declining local scene all around because people lost interest & most bands give up! They wonder why they failed, but yet they follow the same path as all of the other local bands that failed. If you look into the history of metal music in the US, the biggest successes toured their ass off, wrote good music, and promoted their music professionally. Too many local bands are sticking to the trends in the mainstream, and people don’t want to hear that shit everyday.

Local bands are sticking to the same formula that people have been sick of hearing for years! And that formula is catering to what’s big to appeal to a wide audience. While that sounds good on paper, the people listening to local bands usually HATE what’s big, that’s why they look for new bands. Recreating a product that’s ran it’s course is setting yourself up for failure. Your music is your product, and your band is your business; people don’t want a watered down version of something they already can’t stand.

If you look back at metal and rock’s biggest successes, you’ll see that they innovated by doing soemthing new, giving EVERYONE a reason to dabble in the local music scene. Those bands now have millions of fans; Metallica, Slipknot, and Avenged Sevenfold come to mind. Treat your band as a business and focus on making great & innovative products (music), and your band will thrive. Give people a reason to see you in concert, don’t just be another local band. Be the next metal sensation! You can do it.
