The Michelin Crossclimate has won this year’s annual Auto Bild all-season tyre test – taking the spot from 2015’s winner the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons (2nd generation).
Auto Bild, Germany’s renowned car magazine, tested a range of all-season tyres in size 205/55 R16 and awarded the Michelin CrossClimate ‘exemplary’ – the only tyre within the test to receive the accolade.
The Michelin CrossClimate is unique from other tyres in the allseason market – being a summer tyre with three peak mountain snowflake accreditation – whereas historically allseaon tyres are considered more winter tyres which have been adapted to improve their perfomance in summer weather.
Tester, Dierk Möller, was impressed with Michelin’s CrossClimate describing it as an “exemplary all-rounder with the best driving characteristics on wet and dry surfaces… the best mileage was shown by the Michelin and Kleber tyres: More than 55,000 kilometres should be possible with these.”
Taking second place, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons also received a good write up – with particular interest shown to the tyre’s winter characteristics and wet stopping distances, however the performance when braking in dry conditions was criticised.
