The New Singer Porsche 911 “Hong Kong 4” Is Suave To Say The Least

Porsche 911, they are everywhere, and rightfully so in a form that has everything about its functional. If you want to understand the following of Stuttgart’s bottom-mounted-flat-six machine, one look at this year’s Luftgekühlt 4 is good enough for you to get a grip around its cult. Over the years, there have been many who have dedicated themselves in making the Porsche 911 better, a bit more personal and a little bit more special. Off them, probably the most prolific re-imaginations comes from the California-based Singer Vehicle Design, who leave no stone unturned when it comes to creating the ultimate reimagined Porsche 911. These guys have made some epic cars in the past, and their new one is no different when it comes to dropping one’s jaw all the way down to the floor.

A Singer Porsche 911 is more than just a reimagined Porsche. They are a culmination of cultural cues, craftsmanship and single-minded dedication to bring a legend back to the roads, draped with unparalleled flair. You’d understand the cultural cues that reside in each Singer Porsche 911 once you realise that the creative director of the brand is Rob Dickinson, musician and paternal cousin of Iron Maiden’s front man Bruce Dickson. His creations on German metal depict the perfect culture of the location a particular Singer Porsche build heads out to, perhaps why each car is aptly named after the city it’s future residence is at.

Singer Vehicle Design has been in business since 2009. Since then they have already reimagined 60+ cars, off which this Singer Porsche in photos, dubbed Hong Kong 4 is their latest build. Each Singer car gets the same structural and aesthetic treatment as the others, with a few options like colour choices and engine choices left to the owners. The reason for this is that Singer wants to shrink down any tolerances that existed in the original vehicle, making everything taught and more enjoyable. Old-school fun with none of its quirks.

The beauty that lies with Singer designed Porsches is in the way they are built with attention. Each Porsche 964 gets a strengthened monocoque that is made in affiliation with Irvine, California-based Aria Group, while most of the car’s body is reconstructed in carbon fibre for lightness; fenders, bumpers, bonnet, rear engine deck and roof are all re-made in carbon fibre… imagine the weight loss!

To make the recipe even more delightful, Singer Porsche come with 3 completely re-worked engine choices; a 3.8-litre flat-six that puts down 300hp, another 3.8-litre flat-six that puts out 350hp and 4.0-litre 390hp unit that makes the top-of-the-line engine option… All naturally-aspirated of course.

Each Singer Porsche is hand build and takes about eight months to put together. But you won’t see anyone complaining on delivery times, specially after you have one look at what the end product is. The price for all this, as you would imagine, isn’t cheap. But then, nothing good is. If you think of it from that perspective, a Singer Porsche is not expensive, it’s exquisite. It’s the ultimate throwback to the most gorgeous air-cooled machine ever made.
