This stunning little Honda CB350 Cafe Racer built by Moto Madness Customs did not always look this good. Nick got a call from a guy who had several older Honda motorcycles that he was looking to unload. When he got to the guys house, the bike was pretty much buried in the guys backyard. He offered him $300 and the bike was one it way to a new life. Having sat outside for 10+ years, the bike need to be totally stripped down and rebuilt.
Since everything on the bike needed to touched or replaced, they decided to do something a little different. Starting with the frame, the sub-frame was chopped off and replaced with a custom fabricated one. After getting the new sub-frame designed, a monoshock setup was created. A lot of thought and design had to go into the setup that they envisioned. The swing-arm had to be braced and the shock had to be custom built based on the geometry of the mounting points.
Once the sub-frame was completely designed, a custom tail section and seat were fabricated. Started with foam, the tail was shape was shaved out. A mold was made from the foam and then the finally tail section was made out of hand laid fiberglass. A seat pan was cut out of sheet metal and sent over to Corinna at Via Meccanica who made the gorgeous black leather pleaded seat.
With the back end being totally redesigned, the front end needed to match. Ditching the old stock forks, a set of CBR250RR forks were bolted right on. The forks were upgraded with a set of Race Tech springs and valves to match the performance of the rear shock. Additionally, the stock caliper brackets were shaved off and a new mounting tab welded on for the drum brake.
Since the bike sat so long, the wiring harness was completely shot. They went with a Motogadget M-Unit that controls everything on the bike. Upfront, the Motogadget Motoscope Tiny speedo, M-Switch buttons and Dynatek coils are wired into a brand new harness. A Rick’s Electric high out put stator was used along with their regulator/rectifier. Finally, an Antigravity 4 Cell battery is used to fire this thing up.
Turning their attention to the motor, they knew it needed a full rebuild. Motor was completely disassembled down to every last part and inspected. The pistons were replaced with a set of Wiseco Forged ones. A new head, along with new rockers were installed. Finally all new gaskets were used to finally reassemble it. To help it breathe better, a set of Mikuni VM30 carbs with aluminum velocity stack and a custom scrambler style exhaust with 12″ Cone Engineering mufflers were installed.
A lot of other trick little bits were installed on this bike as well. A set of Old Skool rearsets to give it that more aggressive riding style were used. To lighten up the drive train, a CB350 520 Sprocket & Chain kit was used as well as a new set of polished aluminum wheels.
