Using a 2006 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster, South Garage Motor Co. has created a stunning styled cafe racer. Hailing from Italy, these guys create some of the most outstanding custom bikes. While British and European motorcycles are their niche, this American v-twin was perfect for their next project. With Harley’s having a very non cafe racer styling, south garage was ready to take on this challenge. What they have created is a perfect Harley Cafe Racer in my opinion.
Starting with the overall stance of the bike, they tackled the suspension first. With this level of build, it’s no surprise they choose Ohlins front and back. Up front is a set of custom Ohlins forks mounted to a set up custom machined triple clamps. In the rear, a custom aluminum swingarm was built to mount up the Ohlins shocks. This picks up the normally low Harley rear end and gives it that leveled cafe racer look.
Once the guys got the stance of the bike just right, it was time to move onto the body. A custom tank was built with the classic cafe style, yet designed to flow with the v-twin’s cylinder heads. Location of the gas cap has a unique offset location due to a custom aluminum name badge running down the center of the tank. Their tail section has the classic racer design with a brown Italy leather seat mounted on it.
With all the design styling done, a bunch of performance upgrades were done. Brakes front and back are all Brembo with a set of stainless braided lines. The exhaust systems is a custom made titanium 2 into 1 setup that perfectly flows with the lines of the engine. To help the engine breather even better, a cold air induction system was installed with a new fuel map resulting in some hp gains.
The South Garage guys have proven that they can create stunning custom bikes from any platform.
