How Is a Vasectomy Performed?

When it comes to a Vasectomy surgery, many men ask “How is a vasectomy performed?” They can rest assured that the process is relatively simple for a male to undergo.

Patients do not need to worry about losing out on their share of libido or sexual function. Furthermore, it is a simple operation which is completed in about 30 minutes.

During the operation, a local anaesthesia will be administered, and recovery will begin the moment they get up from the table. Within a week’s time, the patient will typically be back to their normal activities.

The Ropes of Vasectomy

The way a vasectomy is performed involves a simple procedure in a clinic or a hospital by an urologist. There are two ways of going about the surgery as outlined below.

The surgeon will advise you on the option that is most suitable to you. However, in both cases the patient remains awake throughout the operation, only undergoing numbing in the area of the scrotum.

The Orthodox Way

Generally, when taking the conventional route, the patient’s scrotum needs a small cut to access the Vas Deferens. A section of these tubes is then removed, followed by the ends being tied together or stitched.

This procedure is carried out on both testicles. The urologist may make an entry cut for each of the testicles, or operate on both from one cut on the scrotum. When the vas deferens are tied up on both of the testicles, the cut is either skin glued or stitched.

No-Scalpel Method

This method saves the patient from cuts, as the name suggests. To avoid the scalpel, a small hole is punctured at the side of the scrotum. Then, the urologist has to find the vas deferens and pull it out of the hole.

The cutting of the vas deferens takes place and a small section is removed. The ends are then tied and stitched together and again placed back where they belong.

After finishing with both of the testicles, the vasectomy operation is complete. To make life simpler, this method requires no stitches as the punctured holes are very small.

Although it is possible for surgeries to have complications like bleeding, bruising, or infection, the no-scalpel vasectomy is a good option to reduce the likelihood of that happening.

There are no side effects that a male needs to be worried about when having a vasectomy performed. The man will still remain sterile and produce sperm, but the sperm will be absorbed by the body.

Males can ejaculate as before, only the sperm will not be present. Hence, it is a fantastic way to control unwanted pregnancy.
