Interview with Curt Bashford, CEO of General Devices (GD) on Telemedicine

by Tamara Williams, April 20, 2018

Curt Bashford

CEO

General Devices (GD)

Health IT Connections member Curt Bashford shares some insights with us on the telemedicine market.

The projected $34B global telemedicine market (by 2020) is at a critical juncture in its evolution as both rising healthcare costs and an aging population continues to stress the already hemorrhaging pre-hospital and hospital care environments. Cost and medical error (risk) reduction, process and workflow improvements for faster door to treatment times, and a higher level of patient care and satisfaction are ongoing drivers of aspirational improvement for every emergency medical facility. The right care, at the right place, at the right time is what will achieve the IHI’s Triple Aim. “Mobile” telemedicine is a tool to help catapult this industry and propel these healthcare providers to realize these and other improvements.

Mobile telemedicine improves emergency patientcare by arming Emergency Medical Services, Mobile Integrated Healthcare/Community Paramedicine services, nurses, physicians and hospitals with capabilities such as secure and reliable multi-media and live audio/video communications, medical specialist teleconsultations, electronic data transfer of patient vitals, records and diagnostic data, automatic notification of patient ETA, arrival and workflow metrics, remote management of 2-way radio and telephone calls, and documentation of the entire case; in order to reduce risk and costs, while improving workflow, quality outcomes, and so much more.

GD improves healthcare by developing the most comprehensive, interactive and widely-used mobile telemedicine, communication, and notification solutions for pre-hospital and hospital environments.  This emanates from our Core Purpose, which is “To improve the health and wellbeing of the public at large by Providing Responsive Innovation for to public safety responders and healthcare providers.”

Curt is a member of the Health IT Connections program and has benefited from the program by networking with the staff and other business leaders as well as healthcare industry guests. “In my cohort, my company is a bit of an anomaly as we are not a startup, however we are pivoting our business and therefore lessons on best practices for a startup mindset do apply.  The staff and guests are open and knowledgeable.  I really enjoy the experience share and am motivated by the palpable drive and vibe of my fellow members” says Curt.
