How Video Marketing Will Change In 2017

A new year typically marks a time for change, both personally and in other things. This holds true for various aspects of business, as well, including Marketing. Trends can be seen in different business aspects, as new ideas and products take the stage and vie for popularity against current and older ideas and products. 2017 is poised to see changes in trends in marketing strategies, among other things. One marketing strategy that is sure to see changes in the popular video marketing strategy, thanks to the ever-growing popularity of online videos and advances in technology. So what sort of changes and trends can video marketing expect to see further into 2017?

1. Facebook Live 360

Facebook recently launched Live 360 video in December 2016 and will expand it too broadly encompass more pages and profiles in 2017.  Facebook is also seeing more video posts and less text posts, and the number of video posts, views, and shares is expected to increase in 2017.

2. Live Video

Expect an increase in the popularity of live video. Brands and Consumers both have begun using it as means of reaching and engaging with their followers. Facebook and Twitter both have platforms for supporting live video streams. It’s good for marketers because the “limited” nature of live video provides the viewers with a sense of urgency from knowing they can’t see the video in real time again.

3. Multi-Channel Marketing

Social media has brought marketers many different channels to share their videos on. They no long have to rely on only YouTube. With consumers not only using different devices to view videos but also different social media channels, expect the trend of brands using multiple channels to share their videos on to grow as they continue to go where their consumers are.

4. Video Will Be A Larger Part Of Content

With a growing demand for video content from consumers, brands will need to create more video content to meet that demand. This isn’t to say that text and image content will not be important because they will be, but consumers are coming to expect video content as well and some will likely lose interest if they don’t see any.

5. Video Ads

With the popularity of video recently, many brands are expected to increase their online ad spending, and use of video ads in particular.

6. “Infotainment”

Consumers like to watch informative videos, but also like to be entertained at the same time. If they’re not entertained by a video, they are likely to click away. So merging the two into “infotainment” videos will do the job quite well.

7. VR

Virtual reality is starting to make inroads, and it’s looking to continue to grow in popularity in 2017. VR headsets are becoming more accessible and marketers have started taking advantage of VR and its immersive environment to reach consumers. At the moment, VR is not much more than a gimmick, something that would be “nice to have”, but it will likely soon become more of a “must-have”. Until then, there is the 360 video, similar to VR, that can work almost as well.

These are just some of the many trends and changes that can be expected for video marketing in 2017. To see more, you can check out this article and this article for some other trends.
