Human Resource is the field for good, self-driven and organised individuals who can help the business to grow and the employees to reach their potential. Every company now a days prefers to have a good team of HR Professionals who can help it to reach its goals, and that’s why HR Professionals are in demand. But what makes you a good HR? • Subject Knowledge – Of course it’s an essential coz until unless you have a command on your subject, you won’t be able to work in the required direction. A core foundation of various HR functions is the basic necessity. Whether its recruitment and hiring decisions or performance appraisals, grievance between the employees or legal compliance, a good Human Resource Professional should be able to resolve every simple or critical issue calmly and fairly and for that a sound subject knowledge is required.
  •  Time Management – On daily basis there are certain tasks which must get completed whereas the working hours are limited. And, the situation is all the more vulnerable when some sudden issues come up and require an immediate attention. Sometimes these issues can be resolved immediately and sometimes they eat a lot of time. And when this happens, the daily tasks get put on hold. Time Management plays an important role in such kind of situations. There should be certain hours which should be devoted to few of the tasks which are most important. Constant heavy deadlines to meet and workload require a lot of patience and time management skills. A good HR professional is the one who gets done all the important works in the given work hours not by devoting extra hours.
  • Good Communicator - Facilitate communication between employees and employer is a primary function of HR professionals. At the same time conveying any important information to the employees or the employer properly is also an HR’s job. They should be good both in written and verbal communication so that the required information can be relayed clearly and effectively to the employees at all levels. Whether a meeting with clients, management or with the employees, they should be able to convey their views precisely and clearly.
  • Tech-savvy – In current era of communication a successful HR professional should be a tech-savvy. He should be well informed and proficient in the use of modern technology. Be it a video call, instant messaging services, employee engagement software or any other important technology, HR professionals must pay attention and should be up to date on that.
  • Being Impartial – Being impartial or to remain neutral is also an essential quality trait of an HR professional. When there is any issue within the employees, an HR professional has to listen to it very carefully and to give a decision based on the facts presented by both the parties instead of thinking emotionally.
  • Good Listeners – HR Professionals are always there to deal with employees’ problems actively, and providing a solution for it. But sometimes letting someone talk through an issue proves more productive than solving it. Successful HR professionals are good with listening to the problems employees are grappling with and empower the employees themselves to come up with the solution.
  • Managing the privacy – HR professionals in every organization have access to so many important and confidential information whether related to the employees’ salaries and increments or developing new policies, some discussions with the management related to certain employees or finances or anything else, they have to be cautious and maintain the privacy so that the things won’t come out before time.

To grow in HR, you would have to imbibe these qualities and at the same time keep learning new things. Yes being passionate about your field is the most important thing here coz until unless you are, you will not succeed.
