Recap: Brock House Wedding Show 2016

I am no stranger to the Brock House Wedding Show. Every year, show producers Dreamgroup Productions wow the masses and always come up with something unique for each show and bring back what proved successful from the past. This year was no different. Let me recount some awesome stuff I came across at this year’s event.

Hot Chocolate

I arrived at 11 AM and went to the back of the line to wait. It was cold and rainy. It was a nice surprise when Brock House Restaurant servers handed out mugs of hot chocolate to us. It had colourful marshmallows and really hit the spot. That’s what I call attention to detail… or at least the weather.

Beyond the Booth App

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, new this year is an app integrated with the Wedding show. If you didn’t know about it, no worries… while standing in line, DreamGroup staff made their way through the lineup making sure everyone knew about it and how to sign up. No download necessary, you just had to type in the Beyond the Booth website address, sign in, and you now had access to all the vendors present at the show. The app allowed you to pin your favourite vendors. Once pinned, you can see their contact information, social media links, and exclusive wedding show deals. You can also enter for door prizes on the app itself and you don’t have to repeatedly fill out information, it’s saved from the first time you type it in. It’s pretty great, no more fumbling for pens, excess brochures and cards need not be given out… all the info the couples needed were in the palms of their hands.

The first screenshot shows your list of pinned vendors and when you select them, their profile appears like so (below) and you can click on the deal you’re interested in and save them in your offers. Use them quickly though, as they have expiry dates.

Cartems’ Donut Wall

I’ve seen this announced on social media and I was really excited to see it. I’m so happy that Cartems Donuterie has jumped into the wedding industry and I’m sure it will be one of the hot new wedding must-haves. A donut wall… Homer Simpson would be proud. It’s essentially a wall of donuts and guests can just grab one as they please. It’s visually appealing, new and unique, and extremely tasty. Excellent donuts guys! Their wall was adorned by Blooms and Paper‘s paper flowers. Super cute!

They also had mini donuts… mmmm donuts…

The Popcorn Bar

If you’re tired of candy buffets, how about a popcorn bar instead? The Popcorn Bar has savoury and sweet gourmet popcorn options available for weddings and events, to give your guests something to munch on at cocktail hour or after dinner. I tried their truffle popcorn and I loved it!

Inspirasian Creations’ laser cut wooden signs

Raquel from Inspirasian Creations says these are the latest trend and it was everywhere at the show… even in the Brides’ Epic Gift Bags! Love how they look, it also makes a nice memento for guests to take home…

Rent a custom paper floral wall from Blooms and Paper

You’ve probably seen them around on Pinterest. The good news is that there’s a local company that rents them out so you don’t have to go through the trouble making it yourself. Blooms and Paper can create custom flower walls for your wedding, good for backdrops for the ceremony, head table, and of course it makes a great photo op. The one they had at the show was smaller than what they usually rent out so you’ll have to inquire to make sure it will work with your venue.

Lavish Liquid’s signature drinks

The drinks were flowing at the bar, thanks to Lavish Liquid. They had 2 signature gin and rum-based cocktails available for guests to sip and toast with. A thirst quencher for sure.

BOLD Event Creative

Re-branded and now serving weddings, BOLD Event Creative is a one-stop decor and floral design studio. Have them style your event or rent from their large rental catalogue, they can also provide flowers for you thru their in-house florist. Check them out!

Roaming Fashion Show

Due to the stormy weather, the tent was not set up (for good reason, safety first). However, their Plan B still worked better than I thought. Once the announcement was made for the fashion show, everybody paid attention and made way for the models who struck poses at various runway stops throughout the house. Gorgeous dresses, beautiful models, well-executed. I’m glad I caught a bit of it before I had to leave.

Of course they also brought back some amazing stuff from last year like…

Musical Occasions’ Live Music

I entered the house and I was surprised to hear a familiar tune. The string trio from Musical Occasions was playing the theme to Game of Thrones. Epic! They clearly keep up with the times and cater to many musical tastes… including GoT fanatics like me

The Bouquet Wall

The Flower Factory, FLOWERZ, and Sunflower Florist each had 4 bouquets featured on this wall. Which one is your favourite? I’ve shown my favourites below but believe me, it was hard to choose.

Flower Factory - this looks like it came out of a storybook. Very earthy, perfect for a garden wedding.

FLOWERZ – I love this modern design… but can you really expect less from FLOWERZ?

Sunflower Florist – This bouquet is traditional but with some attitude. Love the romance yet trendy look of this mostly ivory bouquet.

Stuffed to the Brim Epic Bride’s Gift Bag

The bag is big and really was stuffed to the brim. Brides were treated to sweet treats, beauty products, little accessories and many more.

Curious Oyster

As if this event couldn’t get any more fabulous… 3 words: mobile oyster shuckers. Curious Oyster was back sharing their love for these tasty delicacies. Would love to have them at my (future) wedding… so cool.

There was so much more to this show, lots to love and lots of inspiration to take away. Thank you for letting me come by and check things out again! I can only imagine what new and fun ideas you’ll have at next year’s show.
