Heard about pictures telling stories? What could be best if its a Wedding story!

Famous restaurateur, Mihir Desai who co-owns the popular chain of bars in Mumbai and Pune along with the famous The Bar Stock Exchange, tied the knot with his girlfriend Disha Mehta, on June 29, 2017.

It was a three-day larger than life affair in every aspect. Disha is an entrepreneur and comes from a family which is into the construction and chemical industry. Disha and Mihir met each other through a family meeting.

The celebrations kick-started with a mehendi ceremony on June 27 followed by the engagement on June 28 and concluded with the grand wedding and reception on June 29, at the Taj Lands’ End, Bandra.

It was a Vrindavan-themed wedding and the entire setup looked nothing less than a grand Bollywood movie’s set. Since the groom is from the hospitality industry, every bit of the wedding menu had to be lavish. There was a vast variety of cuisines, and there was a separate banquet exclusively for the desserts!

The Bride Interview

a) A little about both of you. (how did you meet, what do you do)

We met through family friends and got along like a blue streak. Coming from different backgrounds – Mihir being a restaurateur and me, coming from a construction business, there was much to share for their personal experiences.

b) Was there a formal proposal? If yes, kindly share the details with us.

c) Where did you get married? Any factors/ considerations you kept in mind while choosing the venue?

The wedding took place at The Taj Lands End – A sea facing venue keeping the simple factor of convenience of travel for the guests in mind. Bandra being the centre of the city helped sufficing the purpose.

d) Can you tell us a little about the wedding planning process i.e. was it an intimate affair or large celebration, how many months did you have to plan, how many guests were you expecting, did you hire a wedding planner?

The wedding planning was fairly an intimate amour between the planner and the families synthesising – the microscopic details. Since the number of guests expected were on the higher decimal (1800- 2000) we had to make sure all the guests were commodious.

e) Tell us about each of the wedding functions i.e. decor/theme details, and main highlights of each

We started the ceremonies with the traditional Mehendi two days prior to the wedding with the Mela theme, wherein the venue was decorated – Mr Baozi ( Juhu ) with a dash of vibrant colours. Drapes, canopies, pin wheels, teapots and lanterns were a part of the core details exhibited. Folk music and dance followed by the Dj playing the new age Bollywood songs kept the guests humming. To keep them entertained were the various activity stalls: the astrology corner, live bangle making counter, Handicraft stall and the caricature artist. Over the entertaining stalls, every mela has the infamous list of charts ( Thela’s ) catering to our guests with a twist of molecular gastronomy menu. Molecular cocktails served with the Emli foam, mohito spear, jal jeera and liquor ice- creams were our muses to the event.

Following the day after, we had the Sangeet night dwelling into the carnival theme. From having the bride and groom enter with carnival dancers to the rhythm of celebrations to having friends perform “Chai with Charan” to make guests understand our journey. The night had a couple of aerial acts alone with pom-pom dancers, to add to this, there were acts by Drinqz – A champagne chandelier lady serving gastronomic influenced drinks.

The wedding was a deep-seated event being an intimate affair. Authentic, ritual-based, traditional pheras, as they were planned by the Vrindavan-themed nuptials. The mandap was covered with beautiful floral arrangements and sparkle for that glimmering fairy-tale vibe. I was accompanied by young monks recoding mantra’s remarking my journey into my new life. The decor stated a blend of elegance along with traditional.

The reception decor cultivated the mood of romance in decor, the pianist and the internationally acclaimed percussion band ‘Symphony’ lit up the reception evening with their jazz tunes that blended flutes and catchy beats.

f) Please share info on your looks for each wedding function i.e. a one-line description of your outfits and if possible, please mention designers’ names too. Also, tell us what jewellery, accessories and shoes you wore to complete your look.

The Photo Diary for photography and videography – I had followed their page as I had stumbled upon one of their wedding videos and loved their work, so they were a personal favourite!

h) Are there any other wedding highlights you’d like to share i.e. about your wedding invitations, catering, wedding cake, entertainment during the functions and any other memorable moments from your celebration?

The beautiful 6 tier cake was alluring and harmonious from Le Folie. The intricate detail of work manifested grand style. Chef Sanjana solicitude the cake with various flavours such as snickers, dark chocolate and mousse making it artistically tasteful along with a customized ‘DM’ wedding logo. A non-traditional, French cake with fine lined chocolate flowers that were hand sculpted and not made of the regular fondant. White, baby pink and golden were the colors used over all.

Coming from the food and beverage industry, the menu had to be multitudinous but the interesting part were the disparate areas ( mini Banquets ) flaunting many- sided deserts during all functions marking distinctive yet populous and omnifarious choices. The menu included delights from around the world such as Lebanese baklava and as a part of the wedding rituals’ ‘sweet exchange’ ceremony, special besan (gram flour) and dry-fruit ladoos were flown in from halwais in from Delhi.

i) Any recommendations/ advice you’d like to share for other to-be wed couples?

Weddings can be stressful, so hiring a wedding planner is advisable if couples want to be stress free during the functions. “Wedding planners and coordinators let you enjoy your day by keeping drama at bay. Also, it is important to keep yourself hydrated and hit the gym to release toxins and look fresh on your big day. In terms of the guest list, get a grip on the approximate number of guests you will be inviting before settling on a venue. This will ensure that there’s ample space for the attendees. As a thumb rule, allow for 25 to 30 square feet per guest. That may seem like a lot, but it’s not if you count the space you’ll need for the tables, bustling waiters, the band and a dance floor. For the grooms especially – put your phone away and enjoy the moments as it’s your day!”

J) Can you brief us about your experience engaging with The Photo Diary?

The Photo Diary was a prompt and certain choice as their work showcased a perfect blend of modern and traditional. It fit the elbow room in all aspects of its beautiful adaption and apprehension to their edits. Personally, it did also garner the melancholy and sentiments, dealing with sensitively. I would recommend all the future Brides and grooms to be – to pick a photographer that could capture diminutive emotions along with the sublimity of the event, implanted in their own skin.
