Life Sans Kids, a new blog celebrating childfree relationships

Welcome to the ‘Life Sans Kids’ Blog, where we celebrate being in fun, loving, committed and childfree relationships.

My wife (Jo) and I have been married for nine years and we are childfree by choice. This blog will share some our thoughts and ideas about making the decision to be a childfree couple however the main goal for us is to share our lifestyle with others to showcase how amazing this choice and consequently this way of life can be…and to also provide insights on how to make the most of being childfree and living a long fulfilling life both as individuals and together as a couple, living sans kids.

People who have determined to be childfree or are thinking about choosing this path with their partner will get a lot out of reading this blog. We certainly welcome comments and an open and ongoing dialogue on all things Life Sans Kids (LSK).

As usual, we’re on the road together…this time in NorCal, due to the nature of my wife’s work as a consultant…we actually reside in Redondo Beach, CA. Today, I’m picking up Jo from work in Stockton, CA and then we’re headed to Carmel (where we got engaged on New Years Eve in 2000) for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Forge in the Forest. After enjoying a cocktail or two and some apps by the fire we’ll take a short drive to Big Sur which is where we’re staying for the weekend to celebrate our friends wedding. They intend to be childfree by choice as well. In fact, children (other than a few from immediate family that are in the wedding) are not allowed at the wedding ceremony or reception, how nice! We understand how it can be cute if kids are involved with the wedding (as they were at ours) however in this case we’re delighted that we’ll be able to enjoy a kids-free weekend with several of our best friends – how luxurious!

On the heels of this weekend we’ll be taking off to Kauai (where we went for our Honeymoon) for an entire week to celebrate our 9-year wedding anniversay. Our entire Trip from the flight to car rental to lodging is FREE thanks to redeeming several AMX points and leveraging other membership points. We essentially live on the road and as such, we accumulate points from reimbursable expenses and put them towards vacations…usually to Hawaii. This will be our third trip to Kauai and the 7th or 8th trip (I’m loosing count!) to Hawaii overall since tying the knot. We can’t wait to go fall in love with each other all over again…something that tends to happen often, especially in HI. Of course, families can accumulate points towards such things as well, and go with their kids if they choose, however since it’s just two of us we’ll get there much faster and once we are there, we are on our own to frolic about however and with whoever we wish.

The fact that we can plan such weekends and romantic/adventurous getaways is something we cherish. Generally, we like destinations that cater mostly to adults versus family-friendly places that are likely to have kids running around, which diminishes our ability to fully relax and enjoy our vacation time. We also like to travel when kids are in school so there is less of a chance for our resort to be overrun by families and kids-gone-wild. When we’re on vacation it’s usually at or near a beach destination (we are both avid beach volleyball players) and once we are there, we stay away from the pool where kids typically hang out with their parents and/or other kids.

As mentioned, our fun-filled trip begins today so I must wrap up this initial entry and get to packing. the next LSK post will include a follow up on our vacation. Until then, thanks for reading Life Sans Kids!

Parting thought – a childfree relationship can be extremely rewarding both personally and professionally, and can foster a love story that you make your very own. This blog will give you a lens into our lifestyle and act as a forum to discuss living childfree. Thanks for joining us!

This is a current photo of my wife and I (ages 39 and 40 respectively) and it’s from the trip to Kauai mentioned above. Can’t wait to go back!
