Keep it simple Keep it Real…..the reset…use it!

On January 1st, I posted about the New Year and urged readers to keep that “New Year” beginning feeling every day, every hour, by hitting the Reset button to start over.

We are 2 weeks into the New Year and, here in Illinois, well into the overcast, icy, freezing rain, blah part of winter, at least for the next few days, so I thought it was a good time to hit my reset button again. We don’t have to let the weather affect our attitude.

Like many of you, I was ready to get back to some Healthier Habits with my eating and physical activity…hit the reset button New Year’s day. I would then continue to hit the reset button on those plans since my life circumstances were getting in the way (I got sick, very busy with work, you know…life). The usual feelings of frustration and guilt soon crept in regarding my new healthier habits and each day I could not work towards those goals, I became a little more discouraged; HOWEVER, (yes this is an important “however”, that’s why it is big and bold) I was continuing to take my 10 minutes (and most days more like 30 min) early in the morning, to read my devotional and to sit quietly and “be still”. The peace that flows through me when I can start my day this way can withstand my daily circumstances.

I will admit that this time then takes away from other early morning tasks I could attempt to accomplish before I get in the shower to begin the work day. I could be spending time exercising (not a bad use of the time at all) or planning and packing my food for the day (also not a bad use of the time) but I am disciplining myself to put that as a top priority. So far, so good except for the other “habits” but that is o.k. because every day, every hour, is an opportunity to start over.   I love this truth!

I don’t have to wait for Monday, or to feel completely healthy, or until the weather improves, or until I have less work to do, or until it’s New Year’s again or until______________. I can reset and start over on anything I need to do (healthy eating and physical activity habits or anything else) at any time because, as Matthew West says, “It’s day one of the rest of my life”

Listen to and read these lyrics. It is worth your time, I promise.

Today’s take away…your gentle nudge…….Set your reset button today.  You can start fresh every morning, every hour.  You have to allow yourself permission to fall short, get up and start again, and keep starting over.  What do you want to “reset” in your life today?

Small tip…..don’t try to go it alone! It has taken me 47 years to really grasp that.  Take Him with you!

o.k., seriously, go back and listen to that song and turn it up!
