Twelve Red Herrings ~ First Among Equals

~Book Review~

Either I spend hours, continuously, reading novels or I don’t read for months at a stretch. There is no in between. Well that “I don’t read for months at a stretch” thing has happened only once and I am recovering from that phase at the moment. Every two weeks we get to choose one book from our school library and I tend to lay my hands upon Jeffrey Archer’s novels every damn time. I have come a long way from Nancy Drew, Archie’s comics and Enid Blyton to Jeffrey Archer, Dan Brown and Danielle Steel. In my pre-teen phase I was obsessed with John Green (I have all his books) and Meg Cabot (Princess Diaries anybody ?). I remember nagging my dad to buy me those book sets (I got that Princess Diaries box set on discount on Amazon. Yayayay) online. But then I grew out of them. *sigh*

Everyone who is close to me knows that the key to my heart is a novel or two (Jeffrey Archer’s please) and that’s all (Ahem. I won’t mind if you buy me a pizza). Nowadays all I do is (quite literally) sleep, eat, not get fat and then sleep some more. School seems like a drag and life seems booooring (and depressing). And so I decided to start all over again and get back to my normal self.

This book that I got from my school’s library by Jeffrey Archer is a combination of two (Twelve Red Herrings and First Among Equals) (I think this is called an “omnibus”) (According to google an “omnibus” is a volume containing several books previously published separately) (Yeah. It is an omnibus).

The first one (Twelve Red Herrings) comprises twelve short stories (Thus the name “Twelve” Red Herrings). Also, if we think about it, a red herring is a clue or piece of information which is or is intended to be misleading or distracting. All these stories have a very surprising end or leave us cliffhanging (That is why maybe he used “Red Herrings” in the title) (Smart guy) (See that is why I like him) (Or I don’t know. Maybe the title has some other meaning behind it).

The second one (First Among Equals) is a story revolving around four men who struggle in their journey to reach the Prime Minister’s office. They come from different backgrounds and have completely different lives but have one goal. This is quite a dramatic plot with new twists in every scene. Also it gets confusing at times (That is because it has so much stuff related to politics in it) (How does he know so much ?) but you enjoy it nonetheless.

If I was told to rate this 900+ page book on a 5 (I am nobody to rate his books though), I would give it a 4.5/5.

(This is not a proper book review. Forgive me)

(Finally. Writing for my blog after so many days feels so good. Yay)

(Also, you must have noticed that I am obsessed with brackets nowadays)

Anyway, have a great day😀
