The Book Thief

~This is a short Book review of my personal favorite~

“People observe the colours of a day only at its beginnings and ends, but to Death it is quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations, with each passing moment. A single hour can consist of thousands of different colours. Death makes it a point to notice them.”

This is the tale of a Book Thief – Liesel Meminger. For her, every night on Munich Street was the same – that is, nightmares of her dead brothers and the train. With time, she learns how to distract herself from these dreams. It is the books and the words in them which teach her how to be strong. The books save her life when there was no hope for survival.

This is the tale of a girlan accordionistsome fanatical Germansa Jewish fist fighter – and quite a lot of thievery, narrated by Death himself.

And when Death tells a story, you really have to listen.

The Book Thief is a no. 1 International Bestseller by Markus Zusak which celebrates the power of words and love, in the face of unutterable suffering.

The film has been adapted into a movie and it is almost as good as the book but the book is at a different level altogether.

Give it a read.
