How to wear all white

You may have noticed that in spite of this post being titled "how to wear all white," I am not, in fact, Wearing all white. I had planned my outfit that way, but as we went outside to shoot it, the wind kicked up and the temperature dropped quite a bit.  While I will suffer a little for fashion, I won't suffer a lot, so I added a denim jacket to the look (I did manage to remove it for a few shots, but more on that later). Which brings me to my California rule: always carry a lightweight jacket with you. You never know when you're going to need it—even in Southern California!

I ordered this Sézane top with the yellow one I wore a few weeks ago, and it's so cute, I couldn't wait to wear it. I know, it's also another white top, but I swear, I'm done buying them for this year! This one is...wait for it...totally different than my others, because the bottom part is gauze and the yoke and sleeves are this pretty crocheted lace.  I sized up to a 40 in this one, although I probably could have gone with a 38, because the body is a bit full. This was my first Sézane purchase, so now I know what sizes to order next time—and, believe me, there will be a next time!

This Gap jacket (last seen way back here) is probably close to 20 years old, but it only gets better with age. It adds a little casual-ness to whatever you're wearing, and the weight is just perfect for warmer weather—especially if you're like me and you get chilled when the temperature dips below 68 degrees. I like to accessorize mine with a pin or two—I'm wearing my Ziggy Stardust pin here as my memorial to David Bowie (rest in peace, Blue Jean Baby).

As I mentioned in this post, I've been wanting a white denim skirt forever, and since I found a regular denim skirt that's not too short and not too straight, I ordered it in white too. This Topshop skirt is juuuuust right. It's also a true bright white, and the top is more of an ivory, but that brings me to a big point about wearing all white: it's ok if your shades are different. In fact, it's more interesting (and less matchy-matchy) that way.

Lately on the weekends, I've been carrying around this pouch—it's a little bigger than a wallet (there are card slots inside) and it holds my phone and lip gloss too. Also, it's $29, so hello bargain! It's also not white, but I chose to go gold with my jewelry and purse, just because I needed a little contrast, and because gold looks so good with white (and a tan, which I'm desperately holding onto). I was really excited to wear my Vionic sandals again, too—we did a ton of walking around at a car show earlier in the day, and my feet were so comfy, it felt like I was stepping on clouds!

We shot these photos in Long Beach, California, right outside our friends' place. Can you imagine waking up to this view every morning? Beach, please!
