United Kingdom-Day 13-Kensington Gardens and Palace

The thirteenth day of our trip to the United Kingdom had us sticking closer to our hotel but it ended up being a challenging day because of the weather. As were eating our breakfast the sun ways sneaking through the clouds. We were both happy about this because the plan was to spend most of the day outside at Kensington Gardens.

Once we were ready, we headed out for the day. Unfortunately, the sun had already disappeared, and the wind was beginning to kick up.

When we got to the nearby gates of Kensington Gardens, we decided to rent a couple of bicycles from the bike sharing station and bike around the gardens. I have always wanted to ride a bicycle in another country but prior to this year it was never an option because my husband only learned to ride a bike at the beginning of January, but it wasn’t meant to be that day. Despite the fact the station had two bikes only one of them could be checked out. I was very, very disappointed in this. Still, the show must go on.

We began our exploration of Kensington Gardens.

The Gardens were very, very large and beautiful. It was just too bad the wind made it so cold.

I wanted to see the Princess Diana Memorial playground, but we could only see it from behind a fence because adults without children are not allowed in the official playground area.

For the most part we followed the Princess Diana Memorial Walk.

We made our way around taking our time to enjoy everything. A highlight of Kensington Gardens were the Italian Gardens which had a beautiful fountain.

Naturally the Italian Gardens would be prettier in the summer, but I’m still had we got to see them.

We crossed into Hyde Park and visited the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. It was very different any fountain I have ever visited, which made me happy. Princess Diana was a unique figure in British Royal History and it makes me happy that the fountain that is in her honor is unique as well.

I couldn’t believe that there were children playing in the fountain considering it was cold, cloudy, windy and threatening to rain.

I guess it’s all a matter of what you are used to.

After our time at the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, we crossed back into Kensington Gardens and began to make our way to Kensington Palace. It was at this point that the wind got totally out of control end ended up turning my umbrella inside out so many times it broke for good!

We were very happy to arrive at Kensington Palace, not just to see the palace but to get out of the wind and spitting rain.

Kensington Palace provided us to learn even more about British Royal history, especially but not limited to Queen Victoria.

The Place was beautiful much simpler than a larger palace like Hampton Court. The last part of the Palace was an exhibit about Princess Diana and her fashion over the years.

I really enjoyed this part. What I really enjoyed about our time at Kensington Place is that that it included history from the distant past like Queen Anne, more recent history like Queen Victoria and history in my lifetime like the Princess Diana. It was very nice mix.

When we were done exploring the Palace, we enjoyed a snack at the café before heading back to our hotel.

After relaxing in our hotel for awhile we went to a nearby restaurant to enjoy some Indian Food!

When we were done with dinner we met up with a friend.

Despite the challenges with the weather we really enjoyed our day at Kensington Gardens. With our vacation nearly over, we were sad but looking forward to our last full day in the United Kingdom.
