United Kingdom-Day 12-Tate Modern and Afternoon Tea

The twelfth day of our trip to the United Kingdom was busier that the prior day but still relatively low key for us.

After eating breakfast in our room and showering we headed out for the day. Our first stop for the day was a quick look at the outside of the reconstructions Globe Theater.

This theater, of course, is famous for being where William Shakespeare put on many of his shows hundreds of years ago. Although we didn’t go inside it was still cool to see this historic spot from the outside.

Our next stop was the Tate Modern museum.

I love modern art, so this film was right up my alley. There were many, many pieces I enjoyed.

One of my favorites was a modern-day tower of babel made out of radios, with each radio tuned into a different station.

There was also a cool and bizarre series of pieces that had everything made from hair.

We only had time to see one floor of the Tate Modern, but I really enjoyed what we did see.

Our time at the Tate Modern was limited because we had reservations for Afternoon tea! When we visited the United Kingdom in 2017, we wanted to have Afternoon Tea at skyscraper called the Shard but naively didn’t make reservations. This year we didn’t repeat that mistake. The view from the Shard was absolutely breathtaking and since the rain had let up a bit, we had a better view of things than we had when we had gone to the Sky Garden five days earlier.

Not only was the view great so was the food.

Since it was special occasion, it seemed appropriate to have champagne with our afternoon tea.

We took our time and enjoyed our afternoon tea to the fullest.

Afterwards we slowly made our way back to the tube. We happened upon a few random and cool sights that we weren’t expecting to find.

Instead of going to the nearest tube station we went for a longer walk so that we could cross the millennium bridge.

I’m really glad we did because I had been wanting to walk across that bridge ever since we visited London in 2017.

After taking the tube back to out hotel we relaxed for a while. Since our afternoon tea had involved so much food, we weren’t especially hungry, but we knew we needed to eat. We decided to pick up something light from the grocery story near our hotel. I had a nice little samosa to my small dinner.

It was a nice low key day.

Justin Gomez and his sister, Terri, have never been close. Separated by nine years and distant in adulthood, Justin and Terri have little in common, except for the love of her three children. In the days before they embark on a road trip to visit the father that once abandoned them and their now deceased mother, both Terri and Justin are dealing with unexpected changes in their lives. Justin surprisingly realizes he might want more than a series of one night stands after a first date goes unexpectedly well. After a lifetime of being a strong type A personality, Terri is forced to confront the reality of the end of her marriage. As they hit the road, with Terri’s children in tow, they find themselves forced to rely on and confide in each other following a devastating event. Confronted with memories from the past and challenges from the present, Terri and Justin must dig deep and unearth the truth about themselves and their parents in order to build a new family based on their love for each other.
